2 Pack Car Headrest Hooks, Clip-On Seat Back Hangers for Bags and Purses

Original price was: $3.99.Current price is: $1.98.

Two clip-on hooks that give a handbag, a lunch bag or a light grocery bag somewhere to hang instead of somewhere to fall over. Each one presses onto a round metal headrest post — the strongest ready-made anchor in the cabin — and clamps there in seconds with no tools, adhesive or drilling. The padded leather-look body is what faces the seat, so the pressure goes onto the post rather than the upholstery, the hook swivels to face the front or the rear seat, and it folds flat when it is empty. It suits posts of roughly 0.32–0.55 in (8–14 mm) and carries up to about 20 lb (9 kg) each; keep the loads light and soft, stay clear of the side airbag path and the belt webbing, and give the clip a push after you move the headrest. Matte black, two per pack.

Why it matters

The seat is where bags go to fall over.

It happens on almost every drive. The handbag on the passenger seat starts sliding at the first corner, and the grocery bag tips between the seats on the way home, fruit first. Nothing is wrong with the bags — a car seat just is not a shelf. It is tilted, it is smooth, and it is covered in something the bag can slide across.

  • ✓The cushion tilts and the bag travels. Every turn and every brake sends it sliding until it stops against the door or the center console.
  • ✓Stopping means everything comes forward. A bag that is not held down arrives on the floor at the first set of lights, with whatever was in it.
  • ✓The footwell is not storage. Whatever lands there rolls forward under the pedals, gets kicked and stood on getting out.
  • ✓Holding it yourself is the worst version. Balancing a bag with one hand while you drive is not an organisation system.

What it does

One small hook turns the headrest post into a hang point.

Every adjustable headrest has two bare metal posts running down into the top of the seat back. That is the strongest ready-made anchor in the cabin, and on most cars nothing is using it. Press a hook onto one post, swing a bag handle over the arm, and the weight hangs straight down beside the seat back instead of riding on the cushion — so there is nothing left to slide.

The bag hangs beside the seat back — the cushion, the belt and the floor all stay clear.

01
Straight down, not across
The bag hangs vertically from the post, so a corner or a stop no longer sends it travelling across the seat.
02
No tools, no adhesive
Press the clip onto the post with your thumb, and take it off again just as quickly when you want the space back.
03
Swivels both ways
Turn the hook to face the front or the rear seat, and fold it up flat against the headrest when it is empty.
04
Uses space you already have
Nothing bolted to the seat back and nothing dropping into the legroom of whoever is sitting behind you.

Build & details

A padded clip, so the post takes the weight — not the upholstery.

A hook like this only has to get two things right: it has to stay on the post, and it has to leave no mark while it does. Everything here follows from that.

The clamping force goes onto the metal post; the padded face is what sits against the seat.

  • ✓It grips the post, not the seat. The clip closes around a round metal post of roughly 0.32–0.55 in (8–14 mm) and holds by clamping force alone — no strap tension to keep checking.
  • ✓Padded body, matte finish. The leather-look cover keeps hard plastic off your hands and off the seat back, in a matte black that disappears against most interiors.
  • ✓An open S-shaped throat. The curve is wide enough for a bag handle, a rolled umbrella or a bottle loop, and the edges are smooth so a soft strap will not fray.
  • ✓Small and light. About 1 oz (30 g) and roughly 2.8 × 4.3 × 1.6 in (7 × 11 × 4 cm) each, so it is barely noticeable once it is on.
Fitting it

On the post in about ten seconds.

No tools, and no need to take the headrest off the seat. The only step worth slowing down for is the first one.

1
Check the post
Raise the headrest and measure one post. Round metal posts of roughly 0.32–0.55 in (8–14 mm) fit; covered or squared-off ones do not.
2
Open the clip
Press the clip body open with your thumb — it only needs to widen enough to clear the post.
3
Push it onto the post
Slide it on until the post sits at the back of the clip. It should feel firm and not rock when you wiggle it.
4
Turn it to suit you
Swivel the hook to face the front or the rear seat, then check the headrest still slides up and down freely.

A firm thumb-press is the whole installation — the headrest never has to come off.

Will it fit?

Measure one post before you buy.

This hook clamps onto the headrest post, so the post decides whether it fits — not the make, the model or the year. Almost every adjustable headrest has posts in the range below, but they are worth checking with a ruler first.

Headrest post Fits? What to do
Adjustable headrest, round metal posts of roughly 0.32–0.55 in (8–14 mm) Yes Clip it on and hang a light bag.
Posts thicker than about 0.55 in (14 mm) No The clip will not close around the post.
Posts covered by a plastic sleeve or trim Usually no The clip needs bare metal to grip — check whether the sleeve slides up.
Integrated headrests with no visible posts No There is nothing to clamp onto.
A headrest that only sits at one height Yes, if the post is exposed Measure the exposed section rather than assuming.
Note: post diameters vary more than people expect. For reference, 0.55 in (14 mm) is about the width of a standard AA battery — if your post is visibly wider than that, this hook is not the right one.

How it compares

Where the bag goes.

There are only four realistic options in a car, and three of them end with the bag somewhere you did not put it.

Headrest hook (these) On the passenger seat On the floor In the trunk
Where the bag ends up Hanging straight down beside the seat back On the cushion, where it slides In the footwell, under your feet In the trunk, out of reach
What happens when you brake Stays where it is, straight down Slides forward and tips over Rolls forward under the pedals Nothing slides, but nothing is handy
What it costs you One small hook per seat A whole seat, plus the mess The footwell and a soggy bag A walk to the back of the car
Best for Handbags, lunch bags, a light grocery run Nothing you care about Nothing that can spill Full shopping trips you unload at home

Using it safely

Four rules for anything hung in a car.

A hook is only as safe as whatever you hang on it. These four take a moment to follow and they are the reason this stays a convenience rather than a risk.

Two front headrests in a car with matte black hooks clipped to the posts and folded flat out of the way

Empty and folded flat, the hooks almost disappear under the headrest.

1
Light and soft only
A handbag, a lunch bag, a light grocery bag. Not tool bags or luggage — anything hard and heavy becomes a projectile in a sudden stop.
2
Stay clear of the airbag
Keep the hook on the headrest post and nothing strapped across the seat back, the side bolster or the belt webbing — those paths need to stay free.
3
Keep it below the window line
A tall bag that covers the rear window or blocks a mirror is a visibility problem, not storage.
4
Re-check after moving the headrest
The clip rides on the post, so give it a push after raising, lowering or refitting a headrest, or folding the rear seats.

Before you buy

Questions we get most.

Will it fit my car?
It fits seats with exposed round metal headrest posts of roughly 0.32–0.55 in (8–14 mm), which covers most cars, SUVs, vans and trucks. What it does not fit is an integrated headrest with no visible posts, or posts covered by a plastic sleeve. Measure one post before you order.
How much weight will it hold?
Up to about 20 lb (9 kg) per hook with the clip fully seated on a clean, straight post. In practice that is a handbag, a lunch bag or a light grocery bag. Heavy or rigid loads should never be hung anywhere in the cabin.
Will it scratch the seat or the post?
The clip grips the bare metal post, and the face that touches the seat back is the soft leather-look pad, so no hard plastic presses on the upholstery. Keep the inside of the clip clean — grit trapped between the clip and the post is the only thing that could mark either of them.
Does it interfere with the side airbag?
It mounts on the headrest post, so nothing is strapped across the seat back and nothing hangs where a side airbag needs to travel. Leave the bolster, the seat back and the belt webbing clear and the path stays free.
Do I have to take it off to move the headrest?
No. The hook rides on the post, so it moves with the headrest. After you raise, lower or refit the headrest, just push the clip once with your thumb to confirm it is still seated firmly.
