Four silicone coasters that drop into the holders and take the mess instead of the console — smooth face up, grip grid underneath.
The dirtiest two holes in your car.
Coffee drips, condensation off a cold can, a splash of soda on the way round a corner — it all ends up in the same place, and the walls are deeper than a finger and narrower than a cloth. Wipe it and you spread it around; leave it and over a season or two the bottom of the holder sets into a dull, sticky ring. A liner is the part that takes the mess so the plastic underneath never has to.
- ✓Coffee sets into the base. Once a drip has dried and bonded to the plastic, wiping just moves it around the bottom of the holder.
- ✓Condensation pools under cold drinks. A can sweating in a warm car leaves a ring of water that sits there until it turns sticky.
- ✓Cans and bottles rock on bare plastic. Holders are moulded for the largest cup they might see, so everything smaller rattles around the bottom.
- ✓A cloth will not reach. The walls are too deep and too narrow to clean properly, and that is how the smell starts.

A rim to catch the drip, a grid to stop the rattle.
Two details carry the whole job. Around the edge sits a low raised rim, so when a cup is tipped or a can sweats the liquid stays on the coaster — tip it into the sink next time you are at the car, and that is the end of it. Underneath, the silicone is moulded into a fine grid: it grips the plastic of the holder, and the soft material presses against the base of a can or bottle so it stops rocking while you drive.
Seated in the holder with a plain steel tumbler on top — the coaster is doing the work, the console stays clean.
Food-grade silicone, thick enough to matter.
A cheap liner fails in two ways: it is too thin to damp any vibration, and it is made of a rubber that smells of the factory the moment something hot sits on it. This one is moulded from food-grade silicone with no filler odour, at 5 mm thick — enough to absorb the rattle of a can and the heat of a fresh coffee, and still thin enough that a cup sits at the height the holder was designed for.
The cross-section: a raised rim on top, 5 mm of silicone through the middle, and the moulded grip grid underneath.
- ✓Food-grade silicone, odour-free. No plastic or rubber smell when a hot drink sits on it, and no taste carried to anything it touches.
- ✓5 mm thick. Thick enough to soak up the rattle and the heat, thin enough that cups and lids still sit where they should.
- ✓Heat resistant to 446 °F (230 °C). Hot coffee, a sun-baked console and the dishwasher are all well inside its range.
- ✓Moulded grid underneath. A textured face rather than a smooth one, so the coaster grips instead of sliding when the cup moves.
Measure once, then it is a rinse at the sink.
There is nothing to install and no adhesive — the whole thing is two fingers and a tap. The only step worth doing slowly is the measuring.
Cleaning is a rinse rather than a scrub — which is the point of an unlined holder being the alternative.
Will it fit your cup holders?
These are round and 80 mm across, which covers most holders in most cars — but the only reliable check is a measurement, so here is exactly what to check.
| What to check | This coaster | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Holder diameter | 3.15 in (80 mm) across | Fits round holders wider than 80 mm — most are 80–100 mm |
| Holder shape | Round disc | Not for oval, square or rectangular door pockets |
| Holder depth | 5 mm thick | Sits flat on the base and raises a cup by 5 mm |
| Material and heat | Food-grade silicone, to 446 °F (230 °C) | Hot drinks and summer consoles are no problem |
| Cleaning | Flexible, dishwasher safe | Rinse under a tap, or top rack of the dishwasher |
| Quantity | 4 coasters | Both front and rear holders, with none left over |
Silicone, thin foam, or a hard insert.
All three will sit in the bottom of a cup holder. What separates them is what happens after a summer on the dashboard and a winter of hot drinks.
| Silicone 4-pack (these) | Thin foam or rubber pads | Hard plastic inserts | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 5 mm of silicone — damps the rattle of a can | 1–2 mm; too thin to absorb anything | Rigid, so vibration transfers straight through |
| Spills | Raised rim holds the liquid until you tip it out | No rim; liquid runs straight off the edge | Usually a tray, but with no give under the cup |
| The holder underneath | Soft material, cannot scuff the plastic | Fine once it stays put; slides when it does not | Hard edges grind against the holder and mark it |
| Heat and sun | To 446 °F; does not warp on a hot dashboard | Curls and crinkles, and can smell when warm | Brittle after a few summers; cracks at the edge |
| Cleaning | Rinse or dishwasher; flexes back to shape | Stains and holds smells; disintegrates when scrubbed | Wipe only — crumbs collect in the seams |
| Fit | 80 mm round; measure your holder | Cut to size, so edges are always visible | Model-specific; often does not sit flat |
| Who it suits | Anyone who drinks in the car and wants a two-second clean-up | A cheapest-possible stopgap | Show cars where the tray never sees a spill |

Measure your cup holder diameter before ordering.
Almost no maintenance, and five seconds of it.
Silicone does not need conditioning, polishing or replacing on a schedule. Four small habits keep the set looking new and keep the holders underneath clean.
Four in the pack, one damp cloth — the whole maintenance kit.
